Range Repair

Wolf dual-fuel and all-gas ranges: ignition and burner faults, simmer that will not hold, dead oven cavities and the control boards behind them.

What people describe when they call

  • A burner clicks endlessly and only catches if you hold the knob in
  • Nothing will simmer — the smallest flame still boils a sauce dry
  • The oven half went blank after a summer outage while the burners still light
  • Knobs and the console get too hot to touch during a long bake

How the visit runs

  1. The appliance is tested rather than guessed at — flame pattern, gas pressure at the manifold, sensor readings against the set point, or the airflow at the hood, depending on what it is.

  2. You get the fault in plain terms, the part it needs, and the price for the repair — which band it falls into is set out below. Nothing is opened up and nothing is ordered until you have said yes to that number.

  3. Common parts are on the van. Anything model-specific is ordered against the serial plate, and you are told the day it is expected rather than a vague window.

  4. Every joint that came apart is leak-tested, every burner is run, and the appliance is left clean and working in front of you.

What the work costs

Six bands, and one firm number before anything is opened up

Flat $89 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it.

Every line below is a range because the fault, the part it needs and the time it takes are not known until the appliance has been tested. Once it has been, you get one firm figure for your repair and you agree it before any work starts — and the $89 already paid comes straight off it the moment you say go ahead. No part is ordered, and nothing is charged, before that.

Igniter or spark module
$190–$440
Burner valve or orifice service
$250–$610
Oven thermostat or sensor calibration
$190–$440
Convection fan or motor
$300–$660
Control board or touch panel
$470–$860
Door hinge, glass or seal
$280–$660

For comparison, a comparable professional range, before installation and ventilation work runs $7,430–$18,900. That is the figure the bands above are worth measuring against — and on the day a repair genuinely is not worth doing, you will be told that instead.

Common questions

Range Repair — the two questions we get most

A burner only stays lit while I hold the knob in. What is that?

The flame is not reaching the thermocouple or the spark electrode long enough to prove itself, so the safety valve keeps shutting the gas. Usually a dirty or misaligned electrode, a blocked port, or a tired valve stem. It is a small job and it does not improve on its own.

Half the range went dead after a power cut but the burners still light.

On a dual-fuel range the oven side is electric and the cooktop is not, so a surge takes one and leaves the other. Nine times in ten it is the low-voltage supply or the relay board rather than the whole control, which is a much smaller bill than the symptom suggests.

  • Low setting on the big burner roared instead of simmering, so sauces kept catching. The air shutter had been left wide open by someone else. Two minutes to adjust, and he checked the rest as well.

  • Oven smelled of gas for a few seconds before it caught, with a small thump each time. He said the igniter was weak and slow, replaced it, and checked the safety valve while he was in there.

  • Knob for the back burner turned but nothing happened, and the kitchen smelled faintly of gas. He shut it down, replaced the valve stem, and leak-tested every joint before he left.
